Inevitable Mexican Season Ending

August 26, 2024

There’s Now a Date & It’s Imminent

As expected, the Mexican mango season is coming to a close, and the final date is now in sight.

A few weeks ago, we reported mixed projections on the timeline for the Mochis Keitt variety. Many producers speculated that once the fruit reached the proper Brix level (which it did about 10 days ago), it would begin to ready (ripen) all at once—this full crop maturation has indeed happened.

Despite favorable weather conditions and manageable fruit sizes due to drought, the time to pick and pack is now critical. Producers are racing to harvest as much as possible before the fruit becomes mature and unusable.

The general expectation is that there’s about one week of harvesting left. Once the fruit is picked and packed, we’ll have a better sense of how long it can be stored for sales. Assumption is that final sales should wrap up around September 10th.

Most Mexican packhouses are expected to be closed in the first week of September marking the conclusion of Mexican mango season!
